On with the Tyan S3970 install… Heatsink problems
Turns out that I’m not the only one flumoxed by the absence of Socket F heatsinks. Luckily, I got a Tyan board, who apparently thought about it, although not to the extent of actually putting words to their thoughts, only actions.
A Google search brought up AMD Forums >a discussion on Socket F Heatsinks. My motherboard is different (S3970), but has the same holes (89mm).
The plastik clips are actually there. I was wondering what they were for… Nowhere in the S3970 are they mentioned – except… for a picture of the CPU plus heatsink. Once you know what you are looking for, it’s there – the black plastic clips, and what looks like a Thermaltake heatsink with clips…
OK, now to go buy some heatsinks and fans to go with power supply I’m still waiting for.
