… part 3: BMC not remotely accessible…
Well, this is the S3970/M3291/Tyan’s/somebody’s fault… OS is installed, 3ware is upgraded to latest firmware, as are BIOS and M3291 firmware. Latest IPMItools is compiled, both on workstation and on this server (SUSE 10.1, both). Well:
- ipmitool can communicate with the BMC locally (
ipmitool -I open -U Admin -P xxxx chassis status
- No system (Windows laptop running the Tyan Java software, workstation, linux laptop, each running both Tyan Java, ipmitools 1.8.8 and 1.8.6) can communicate with the BMC over LAN
That somehow defeats the purpose of the BMC…
I’ll debug this later. For now, the system is running. But a non-functioning BMC is grounds for spending more on a Dell…
